iro iro thoughts is a place of reflection

As a ‘90s kid who started journaling in marble notebooks in elementary school to the angsty adolescent journeys through Xanga, LiveJournal, Blogger, and Tumblr before becoming “too busy” or “too old” as an adult, I’ve always processed the world around me through writing.

Since starting my art practice Iro Iro Things in mid-2022, let’s just say: I’ve had a lot to process. The pleasures and pains of making art, trying to sail off without a compass, being a beginner in spaces I’m not quite sure how to enter, stumbling forward with an ounce of self-worth, wanting to make it without necessarily faking it.

I’m starting this Substack in tandem with a good ol’ fashioned paper and pen journal, so what you see here is likely a selected, edited version of what I write privately. Maybe with fewer expletives. Maybe.

As with most of the things I start, I don’t know exactly where this will lead, but if you’re interested in following along and getting any of this writing sent directly to your inbox, leave your email below:

thanks for being here with me on this journey.
